Be the First: Del Rio Shot Location Wish List

Over the last two weeks, my family was hit with COVID. Of course, it took us one at a time, so we’ve been cooped up for far longer than just the standard 5-7 days of illness you’d expect. I’ve learned, though, that the next time one of us becomes symptomatic, we’re all going to just lick the same spoon and get it over with simultaneously. Ha! Take that, COVID.

As a mom, with each of us going down separately, everything has been a little more difficult to accomplish, especially homeschool. So I’ve been behind and pushing hard to get the bare minimum done. We’re on the path to recovery, though, and I’m finally getting caught up with my tasks. Mostly, I’m now catching up with the website and work. I’ve paid my taxes and filed my BOI, thank goodness, so I’ve officially met my deadline. Now I’m turning to preparing for future sessions.

The weekend before we first started getting sick, I scouted around town for potential areas of interest, and I came across some really beautiful gems that I am itching to shoot at. So, I’ve compiled a list, and will be offering a discount to the first family who books at one of these locations with a model release, as I intend to use those images on my locations page. If you’re interested in being a model family for these, please contact me through the details at the bottom of this page. And if you’d like to see my other locations, click here.

  1. Lt Thomas Romanelli Memorial Park

This park has multiple areas of interest, from green grassy fields to tree coverage and pathways, and a lovely little creek path. I see a lot of various backdrop options, and the sun sets at a gorgeous part of the sky in this area. I have high expectations of the images that could come out of a location like this one. I envision a family or couple would be perfect with this area as a backdrop. Parking is in a parking lot, and there were some sporadic visitors when I scoped this out. Not overly crowded, though.

Wardrobe Preference: Flowy dress, comfortable clothing for partner and children. Plan for a picnic-date style.

Model Choice: Family, couple, maternity.

Update: Lt. Thomas Romanelli Memoria Park was booked! Location is no longer available for discount. Thank you to Angelica and her family for choosing this location.

2. Field on the Coner

This random tall grass field on the corner of Gilchrist Ln and Qualia Dr., near Val Verde Winery looks like it would make such a wonderful backdrop for images. I imagine a picnic in the grass and lots of play with a family with kids. It would be perfect! Parking is side of the road, and there are houses across the street. It seems like a secure and safe area to be in.

Wardrobe Preference: khakis and comfortable stylish clothing preferred. Sweaters, pants, or dresses. Plan for playing in a field of grass.

Model Choice: Family with multiple young children.

3. Rotary Park Surrounding Areas

Romanelli Park and the street next to it have 4 different areas that look perfect. There is short grass with creek side views, tall grass with trees, and even brown tall grass for a more desert-y vibe. The good news is the tall grasses are protected lands and will not be mowed, so they should have tall grass year-round. I think this would be ideal for a more intimate vibe, with a couple or maternity model. These are all very easy to get to and roadside parking is literally next to each of the spots.

Wardrobe Preference: Flowy Dress & sun hat, jeans for partner. Plan for a picnic-date type of styling.

Model Choice: Couple, Maternity.

4. Cross on the Hill

For more of a desert scene, I found an area near Loma De La Cruz. I stopped and spoke with a family who was just finishing their hike up the hill. This area doesn’t seem to get many visitors and has a huge potential for images. The backdrop is gorgeous if you’re into the sandier and hillier locations. From the wash with beautiful greenery to the sand and rocks surrounding the hill, this area is rich with Del Rio history and beauty. Parking is roadside and at the Cemetary towards the back of the area.

Wardrobe Preference: Texas themed. Boots, cowboy hats, jeans, the works.

Model Choice: Couple Preferred.

Update: Cross on the Hill was booked! Location is no longer available for discount. Thank you to Brittany and her family for choosing this location.

5. Jesse T. Cardenas Park

This park, just south of Laughlin AFB, offers a wonderful wash that’s beautifully lit with grass, a low cut field with white painted trees, and some lovely hilly backdrop options. Parking is in front of the park. By the time I reached this spot, the sun had set into blue hour, but I think that sunset would be gorgeous here.

Wardrobe Preference: Flowy dress, khakis and neutral tones.

Model Choice: Family preferred.

Update: Jesse T. Cardenas Park was booked! Location is no longer available for discount. Thanks to Jessica and her family for choosing this location.
